Welcome to the Space Unit Study, a hands-on, inquiry-based learning experience designed to spark curiosity and deepen understanding of the universe! This unit invites students to explore big ideas through meaningful, real-world learning. Each lesson is built around a central question that encourages students to investigate, experiment, and make connections. Students will engage with concepts through hands-on activities, reading and reflection. Rather than focusing on memorizing facts, this unit emphasizes understanding concepts, asking questions, and applying learning in meaningful ways.

Major Themes

* Scale and Perspective in Space: Students explore the immense size of the solar system and develop an understanding of distance, proportion, and spatial relationships through mapping and modeling activities.

* Forces That Shape the Universe: Learners investigate gravity, orbits, and motion to understand how invisible forces govern the movement of planets, moons, and other celestial bodies.

* Space Objects and Cosmic Events: Through the study of asteroids, comets, meteors, and moons, students examine the diversity of objects in our solar system and the events that continue to shape planets and space environments.

* Mysteries of the Universe: Students are introduced to dark matter and dark energy, exploring how scientists use evidence, observation, and inquiry to investigate phenomena that cannot be directly seen.

* Human Survival Beyond Earth: By designing a sustainable Mars colony, learners apply science, engineering, problem-solving, and systems thinking to real-world challenges of living in space.
